Final CD by The Bourbon Knights; lovingly packaged and only available online at rodentiamusic.com
CHRIS WISSMANN of the NIGHTLIFE says: "Because their CD-release party was also their farewell performance, the Bourbon Knights haven't promoted their swan song Krampusnacht with a series of gigs as most bands would. Quite a shame, really-- the CD is a typically wild, loopy excursion, with open-throated, caterwauling vocals set to drunken, woozy rhythms and melodies. From Irish music to seafaring pirate chanties to eastern European and middle-eastern dance music, all played with a slight punk undertow, Krampusnacht captures the expanding breadth of the Bourbon Knights, and shows the band was still growing. That's the sad news: Krampusnacht doesn't demonstrate a band at its logical conclusion, but one with plenty of ideas left to explore. If fans will mourn the untimely disbanding of the group (especially since their last show at PK's couldn't nearly hold all the people who lined up outside to see the performance), they will most appreciate that the Knights of Bourbon did at least leave a way to relive the band's trademarked shameless, insane debauchery. Moreover, Krampusnacht shows that the Bourbon Knights' sloppy excess was merely an affectation-- the playing is extremely tight and focused, with the band perfectly pulling off dramatic tempo changes and style shifts. There never will be another band quite like them." Thanks, Chris!
